1000 Cups of Coffee

Support for gatherings from the Oceans Collaborative at EFC

We are living in very dynamic times, amongst rapidly shifting and complex politics and (mis)information. The Oceans Collaborative believes that more than ever, we need to come together face to face so that we can build the relationships, trust and connections that are necessary to build broader support for coastal and ocean protection.

This small grant fund will support gatherings that contribute to restoring and protecting healthy, productive oceans and coasts in Canada.

Specifically, we are seeking to support gatherings that bring people together to:

  • Advance Indigenous leadership and strengthen stewardship and governance capacity;
  • Engage and mobilize coastal communities and stakeholders; and/or
  • Advance the development and implementation of effective laws and policies to support healthy oceans and communities

The wellbeing of coastal communities is fundamental to our goals. We welcome gatherings that promote healing, including language and cultural restoration efforts, as well as health and wellness programs that have explicit goals to reconnect people to ocean places, recognizing the critical role these connections play in enabling community-led marine stewardship.

Eligible applicants are:

  • Small non-profit community-led and/or Indigenous organizations with budgets <1M/year. You do not need to have charitable status to apply.
  • Indigenous governments.

Eligible expenses (up to $10,000) include:

  • Travel and accommodation
  • Venue rental, catering, facilitation, communications, and promotion costs
  • Staff costs
  • Administration (<15%)
