1000 Cups of Coffee Support for gatherings from the Oceans Collaborative at EFC We are living in very dynamic times, amidst rapidly shifting and complex politics and (mis)information. The Oceans Collaborative believes that more than ever, we need to come together face to face so that we can build the relationships, trust and connections that are necessary to enable meaningful coastal and ocean protection. The path to protecting and managing coastal and marine places can be complex and without good relationships in place, can create division in communities where many rely on the ocean for their food and livelihoods. The Oceans Collaborative believes there is a way forward that prioritizes both the well-being of these places and that of the people who depend on them. Our 1000 Cups of Coffee fund supports gatherings that aim to bring together people with different perspectives and experiences, to connect over their shared interest in restoring and protecting healthy, productive oceans and coasts in Canada. Examples of gatherings we have supported include: Indigenous-led gatherings that seek to include more than one community, non-Indigenous neighbours, researchers, and/or other local experts; A public event designed to reconnect a broad group of people to ocean places through experiences; and A community forum to share perspectives on potential marine protected and conserved areas. This fund does not contribute to: Fundraising events Technical conferences Watershed-focused gatherings Consultation or public engagement efforts required by law or government policy Eligible applicants are: Small non-profit community-led organizations with budgets <1M/year. Indigenous governments and Indigenous-led[1] organizations regardless of budget. If you are not a registered charity or an Indigenous government, you are still eligible to apply for this fund. EFC can grant to organizations that do not qualify as charities under Canadian law; however, we will require additional information and reporting to meet CRA requirements. Eligible expenses (up to $10,000) include: Travel and accommodation Venue rental, catering, facilitation, communications, and promotion costs Staff costs Administration (<15%) Timeline The 1000 Cups of Coffee Fund will have two intakes per year with $150,000 to disperse at each intake.
