EFC Speaker Series – Transforming Agriculture from a Climate and Biodiversity Problem to a Solution in Canada

6 November 2024 / Registration Open

As environmental challenges intensify—spanning climate change, biodiversity loss, human health, and water management — organic and regenerative agriculture emerge as transformative solutions. Regenerative agriculture is increasingly recognized as a priority for environmental funders, offering a strategic approach to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions, conserve biodiversity, and minimize reliance on harmful chemicals. Organic farmers, employing a systems approach and adhering to rigorous standards that incorporate and amplify regenerative practices deliver exponential benefits across multiple interconnected areas. The planetary benefits for these kinds of agriculture practices are well articulated here by Dr. David Suzuki.

With all 27 EU member states targeting 25% organic agriculture by 2030, we will explore how countries like Denmark and the U.S. are leading the charge in food system transformation. What factors are driving the shift to regenerative organic farming in Canada, and how can philanthropic funders focused on environmental impact catalyze these initiatives?

We are excited to welcome two distinguished leaders in this field, Paul Holmbeck, World Board Member, IFOAM – Organics International, fmr Director Organic Denmark and Director, Holmbeck EcoConsult, and Gillian Flies, Executive Director of The New Farm Centre for Climate Action (Canada), to guide us in exploring these critical questions and to inspire collective action. The session is hosted by Nancy Bradshaw with the Endswell Foundation.
